September is National Recovery month in both the USA and Canada. The United States is in their 31st year recognizing September as National Recovery month . Its primary purpose is to educate Americans that substance use treatment and mental health services can enable those with mental and substance use disorders to live healthy and rewarding lives.
Recovery Month Canada currently has M-40 #M40Movement petition for Canadian residents to sign and push local MLAs and Government to recognize September every year, as National Recovery Awareness Month to recognize and support Canadians recovering from addiction and to demonstrate that recovery from addiction is possible, attainable and sustainable.
In Canada, there are a number of Recovery events that happened, but due to COVID many of the events were run virtually. We are grateful to have platforms to run these virtual events but connection is the opposite of addiction and in Victoria, BC, where Soberstore is based, we are seeing many 12 step meetings go back to in-person meetings with physical distancing and masks in place. This is the new reality we are living in, but with addiction, Recovery must come first.
Soberstore products were created to share the message of recovery and shift stigma in society about people with the disease of addiction. Product sales support Colwood Serenity House, a recovery house for women in Victoria, BC
